" MAM Fund Raiser Flyin for 'KIDS Place' Sept. 25th & 26th at OTX "
New Updates to Website 8/29/2010
MAM MEMBERS - We need your HELP to make this FUND RAISER a Success!
From Jim Alvord, WebMaster, Macon Aero Modelers
There's a place in Franklin, NC where abused and ignored children can go and receive guidance, love, and acceptance called 'KIDS Place'.
This charity survives totally on donations from local individuals, organizations and businesses.
This year the B.O.D. and members of Macon Aero Modelers decided to turn our Annual Fall Invitational Flyin into an opportunity to raise funds for this worthwhile local charity. After all, kids and R/C flying go hand-in-hand.
So - this year there will be NO LANDING FEE! There will be a $5 per car / per day event fee only for the two day event. There will also be food available for a nominal fee for those choosing to stay and enjoy the show without having to go into town to eat.
The menu will be simple and inexpensive to consist of:
$5 for Hamburger PLate with cloe slaw, beans, and drink
$4 for Hot Dog Plate with cloe slaw, beans, and drink
$3 for an extra Hamburger without the extras
$2 for extra Hot Dog without the extras
Of course you can always make the short trip into Franklin or Dillard for all the other restaraunts availble with every kind of food imaginable as well. There's also the "441 Diner" across from Tessentee Rd. next to the Post Office in Otto for local home cooking as well.
Invitations have been sent out to 50+ other clubs in the surrounding states and we're looking for a number of pilots with assorted planes and skill levels to provide an exhibition like we've never had before at OTX all day long and possibly into the evening.
Our illustrious leader,Bob (Commodore) Wilson, has extended an ivitation to some of the IMACs pilots to come if they can and show us their extremely skilled piloting controls in performing the precision 'pattern flying' routines that they are famous for.
Our own MAM pilots will be flying electrics, nitrous, and gassers in all shapes and sizes throughout the day. Some will include aerobatics and 3D flight with and without Smoke to entertain the crowds. And I wouldn't be surprised if a couple unique varieties of aircraft made a showing from time to time throughout the day as well.
Where else can you get a full day of entertainment out in Natures most Beautiful area of 'God's Country' in the Great Smoky Mountains for $5 and support a valuable charity and local resource in the form of "KIDS Place" at the same time.
So plan on packing your folding chairs and Sun-brellas and making the short scenic drive to Otto, NC "the small town with a Big heart" and enjoying a day of exhibition flying and commaraderie and conversations. It truely is the most fun you can have vertical with clothes on.
